Waning Crescent Wisdom: A Declaration of Cleansing from Laon, Lalaon, Malaon, and Kanlaon

Preparing the Heart, Mind, and Spirit for the New Moon

As the Moon enters its waning crescent phase, we arrive at one of the most sacred moments in the cycle of renewal. The brilliance of the previous moon has faded, and the night sky invites us into stillness, reflection, and release. This is the season of emptying before refilling, of surrender before rebirth.

Within the spiritual traditions of Templong Anituhan, the waning crescent may be contemplated as a time when the Ancient Powers call upon humanity to cleanse itself of what no longer serves its highest purpose. It is a liminal space between endings and beginnings, a threshold where the soul prepares for the arrival of the New Moon.

At this sacred time, let us imagine the voices of Diwatang Laon, Lalaon, Malaon, and Kanlaon speaking to us from the depths of ancestral memory.

The Call to Release

The Ancient Ones remind us that not everything we carry belongs in the next chapter of our lives.

Many of us hold onto fears that were necessary for survival at one time but now prevent growth. Some carry wounds, resentments, disappointments, or burdens that have become so familiar that they are mistaken for part of the self.

The waning crescent moon asks us:

  • What fears am I ready to release?
  • What habits no longer serve my well-being?
  • What attachments prevent my transformation?
  • What words remain unspoken within my heart?
  • What grief remains unexpressed?

In spiritual work, cleansing is not the rejection of the past. Rather, it is the honoring of lessons already learned and the conscious decision to move forward with greater clarity.

The Sacred Elements of Purification

The declaration of the Ancient Ones speaks through the language of the elements.

Fire

Fire transforms.

Just as volcanic fires churn beneath the sacred mountain, the fire within us can consume anger, bitterness, and emotional stagnation. Fire reminds us that destruction and creation often occur together.

What no longer serves the spirit may be offered to the flames of transformation.

Earth

Earth receives.

The earth is patient enough to hold our disappointments, our unrealistic expectations, and the burdens we have carried for too long.

Through symbolic acts of release, we entrust these burdens to the embrace of the sacred ground beneath our feet.

Wind

Wind liberates.

The unspoken words, forgotten dreams, and hidden truths can be released into the currents of the air.

The breath itself becomes a prayer of purification.

Water

Water heals.

The tears we have not allowed ourselves to shed may finally flow. Water cleanses not only the body but also the emotional and spiritual self.

In every drop dwells the possibility of renewal.

The Wisdom of Stillness

One of the greatest lessons of the waning crescent is learning not to fear silence.

The modern world often teaches us to equate movement with progress and activity with purpose. Yet nature reveals another truth.

Seeds germinate in darkness.

Healing often occurs in quiet moments.

Mountains gather strength beneath the surface long before they erupt in transformation.

Likewise, this phase of the Moon invites us to embrace sacred stillness.

What appears empty is often preparing to become full.

What appears dormant may be gathering strength.

What appears to be an ending may, in truth, be a beginning.

A Ritual of Inner Cleansing

As we approach the New Moon, the Ancient Ones offer a simple spiritual directive:

Cleanse yourself.

Release negative thoughts, fears, and emotional burdens.

Cleanse your home.

Create a space that welcomes peace, harmony, and blessings.

Cleanse your words.

Speak with integrity, compassion, and truth.

Cleanse your intentions.

Align your actions with your highest values and deepest spiritual purpose.

By engaging in this fourfold purification, we create space for new opportunities, relationships, insights, and blessings to enter our lives.

Preparing for the New Moon

In many traditions, the New Moon represents a blank page upon which a new story may be written.

Yet a vessel already full cannot receive fresh water.

A heart crowded by resentment cannot easily welcome peace.

A mind overwhelmed by fear struggles to perceive new possibilities.

This is why cleansing precedes manifestation.

Before we ask for blessings, we first create space to receive them.

Before we seek guidance, we quiet the noise.

Before we begin anew, we honor what must be released.

A Closing Blessing

As the light of the Moon fades into darkness, may we remember that darkness is not an absence but a womb of creation.

May the guidance of Laon, Lalaon, Malaon, and Kanlaon inspire us to release with gratitude, cleanse with humility, and welcome the coming New Moon with open hearts.

May our minds become clear.

May our hearts become peaceful.

May our bodies become vessels of healing.

May our souls become fertile ground for wisdom, growth, and transformation.

And as the New Moon rises, may we step forward renewed, purified, and ready to receive the blessings of the next sacred cycle.

So may it be. Mayari Na!
