“All beings are expressions of that one ultimate reality, each manifesting it according to their nature.”

A Reflection on Panentheism in Templong Anituhan

In the spiritual path of Templong Anituhan, there is a teaching that stands at the very center of all understanding. It is not a doctrine meant to confine belief, but a truth meant to awaken awareness:

There is one ultimate reality from which the universe arises, and in which all things exist.

All beings are expressions of that one ultimate reality, each manifesting it according to their nature.

This ultimate reality is known as UMli.

Beyond the Idea of “God”

UMli is not simply a “God” in the usual sense.

It is not just another being among many.
It has no single form, no fixed image, and no limitation bound by space or time.

Instead, UMli is:

  • The source of all existence
  • The ground of all being
  • The living presence within and beyond everything

Across the many cultures of the Philippines, the highest divine names—Bathala, Magbabaya, Sualla, Manama—are honored as sacred. In Templong Anituhan, these are understood not as separate ultimate realities, but as different windows through which people have encountered the same Source: UMli.

No single name contains it.
Yet every sincere name points toward it.

A Living Vision: Panentheism

The teaching that describes UMli most clearly is known as Panentheism.

This word expresses a simple yet profound insight:

All things exist within the Divine, yet the Divine is greater than all things.

This means:

  • The universe is not separate from UMli
  • But neither does UMli end with the universe

Everything exists within UMli—
yet UMli is more than everything we can see, know, or imagine.

The Universe as Expression

If UMli is the source, then what is the universe?

It is not separate.
It is not accidental.

👉 It is expression.

Every part of existence—seen and unseen—is a unique unfolding of the One Reality.

  • The Diwata express UMli through cosmic roles and sacred functions
  • The Engkanto express UMli through the living presence of nature
  • The Anito express UMli through ancestry, memory, and continuity
  • The human soul (Kaluluwa) expresses UMli through awareness, choice, and transformation

Each is different.
Each carries purpose.
Each reflects the same Source in its own way.

A Universe Held Within

One of the deepest realizations in this teaching is this:

Nothing exists outside UMli.

The stars, the rivers, the forests, the spirits—and even our thoughts and breath—
all unfold within this greater reality.

And yet, UMli is not limited by any of these.

A simple way to reflect on this is:

  • The universe is within UMli
  • But UMli is not confined to the universe

The Human Path

As human beings, we stand in a unique place within this living reality.

We are not separate from UMli—
but we are also not the whole of it.

We are expressions of it, gifted with awareness.

This gives rise to a sacred path:

  • To recognize our connection to the Source
  • To live in harmony with the greater web of existence
  • To refine our awareness toward deeper truth

Spiritual growth, in this sense, is not about becoming something else.

It is about remembering who and what we truly are within the whole.

Living the Teaching

To live with awareness of UMli is to see the world differently:

🌊 Reverence

All life becomes worthy of respect, because all life carries the presence of the Source.

🔥 Responsibility

Every action matters, because all actions occur within a sacred whole.

🌳 Harmony

Balance replaces domination, as we recognize our place within a greater order.

🌕 Awareness

The path becomes one of awakening—not escape, but deeper presence.

A Reflection

Take a moment and feel this truth—not just as an idea, but as a quiet awareness:

The air you breathe, the earth beneath you, the life within you—
all arise from the same Source.

The Diwata move through it.
The spirits dwell within it.
The ancestors remember through it.

And you, as living soul, awaken within it.

For all that exists, exists within UMli.

And UMli is the endless source of all that is.

Closing

The teaching of UMli invites us into a sacred understanding:

✨ That we are not separate from the divine
✨ That the universe is alive with presence
✨ That every being is part of a greater unfolding

It is not merely a belief system.
It is a way of seeing, living, and becoming.

And in that seeing, we begin to recognize:

We are not outside the sacred.

We are already within it.
