From “Mahal Ako” to “Mahal ang Lahat”: A Teaching on Sacred Love in Templong Anituhan

In our understanding of Mahal na Makaako, we recognize a profound truth hidden within the name itself:

“Mahal na Makaako” → “Mahal ako”
(I am loved.)

This is not only a statement of belief.
It is a sacred awakening.

It reminds us that at the center of all existence is divine love, and that each of us is held within it. But this realization raises an important question:

👉 Is love only for the self?
👉 Or is it meant to extend beyond us—to kapwa, to nature, to all creation?

The Beginning: Self-Love as Sacred Alignment

In Templong Anituhan, self-love is not seen as selfishness.
It is the foundation of sacred order.

A person who does not recognize their own worth:

  • may act from emptiness
  • may harm themselves or others
  • may disrupt the balance they seek

But when we understand:

“Mahal ako ng Makaako” (I am loved by the Divine)

We begin to:

  • care for our body
  • respect our spirit
  • align our thoughts and actions

This is self-care as spiritual responsibility.

But Self Is Only the Beginning

Self-love is not the end of the teaching—it is the gateway.

In the sacred order of Makaako, love is not meant to remain contained.
It is meant to expand.

The Three Movements of Sacred Love

1. Mahal Ako (Love of Self)

You honor the life within you.
You recognize your value as part of creation.

2. Mahal Kita (Love of Kapwa)

You extend compassion, respect, and care to others.
You recognize that they too are held by Makaako.

3. Mahal ang Lahat (Love of All Creation)

You honor the entirety of life—seen and unseen.
You participate in the harmony of existence.

Who Is “Kapwa” in Sacred Understanding?

In everyday language, kapwa often refers to fellow humans.
But in the deeper teaching of Templong Anituhan:

Kapwa is all who share in the sacred order of Makaako.

This includes:

  • 👤 Humans – family, community, even strangers
  • 🐾 Animals – companions and wild beings
  • 🌱 Plants and Trees – sources of life and healing
  • 🌊 Rivers, Mountains, and Land – living systems with spirit
  • 👻 Anito, Diwata, and unseen beings – guardians of balance

👉 In this way, nothing exists outside the circle of love.

The Balance of Love

Love, in the teaching of Makaako, is not one-sided.

It must be balanced:

  • To love only yourself → self-centeredness
  • To love only others → self-neglect
  • To love only humans → disconnection from nature

All of these create imbalance, and therefore disturb sacred order.

The True Path

True love is balanced love.

It includes:

  • Care for the self
  • Compassion for others
  • Respect for nature
  • Reverence for spirit

This is what we call living in right relationship.

A Teaching from Mahal na Makaako

If we listen deeply, this is what the voice of Makaako may reveal:

“Minahal kita upang matutunan mong magmahal—

(I loved you so that you may learn to love—not only yourself, but all that I have created.)

“Ang sarili mo ay simula, ngunit hindi katapusan ng pag-ibig.”
(Yourself is the beginning, but not the end of love.)

“Kung mahal mo ang sarili mo ngunit sinasaktan mo ang kalikasan, nilalabag mo ang kaayusan.”
(If you love yourself but harm nature, you break the order.)

“Kung mahal mo ang iba ngunit pinababayaan mo ang sarili mo, winawasak mo rin ang balanse.”
(If you love others but neglect yourself, you also destroy balance.)

A Practice for Daily Living

As members of Templong Anituhan, we can reflect:

🌺 “Ang ginagawa ko ba ay nagpapakita ng pagmamahal sa…?”

  • Sarili ko?
  • Kapwa kong tao?
  • Kalikasan?
  • Espiritu at ninuno?

If one is missing, the circle is incomplete.
If all are present, order flows naturally.

Love as Sacred Participation

In the end, love is not just a feeling—it is a way of living.

To love is to participate in the sacred order of Makaako.

Every act of care:

  • toward yourself
  • toward others
  • toward the earth
  • toward the spirit world

…becomes an act of restoring harmony.

Closing Teaching

“Ang pagmamahal ay hindi lamang para sa sarili o sa kapwa-tao, kundi para sa buong sangnilikha—sapagkat ang lahat ay bahagi ng iisang kaayusan ni Mahal na Makaako.”

(Love is not only for the self or for fellow humans, but for all creation—for all are part of the one sacred order of Mahal na Makaako.)

In this way, we do not only say “Mahal ako.”
We live it.

And through us,
the love of Makaako flows into the world.
