Walking Between Worlds: Lessons from the Diwata and the Gift of Life

Every sunrise is a sacred gift—the breath of life that allows us to continue our journey. Since 2023, I have been blessed to walk with the Diwata, and this year, I began writing about them, observing how their wisdom flows into my thoughts. Each day reminds me of two truths: life is a blessing, and I am human—with limitations that keep me humble before the Councils of the Diwata.

In this cycle of the moon, under the guidance of Diwatang Makidepat, I reflect on what it means to live with gratitude, humility, and purpose. Here are the lessons I’ve learned that I hope will inspire you too.

Important Lessons to Share

  1. Life is a Daily Gift
Every breath is a blessing from the Diwata. Recognizing this transforms ordinary days into sacred opportunities for growth.
  2. Human Limitations Are Pathways to Wisdom
Our weaknesses are not curses—they are reminders to seek guidance from the divine and to remain teachable.
  3. Power Belongs to the Divine
Wishing for superhuman powers may seem tempting, but true strength lies in prayer and surrender, not in judgment or punishment.
  4. Honor the Dead and the Living
The souls who have transitioned still need healing, and their loved ones need comfort. Remembering them through prayer and offerings bridges the worlds of the living and the dead.
  5. Gratitude Opens the Door to Blessings
By acknowledging what we have—life, guidance, and community—we invite more abundance into our lives.
  6. Seek What is Just and Proper
Diwatang Makidepat teaches us to discern what is fitting, worthy, and right. Justice begins with clarity and humility.
  7. Manifest with Purpose
Our desires—whether for personal growth or community service—should align with the greater good. Magick flows where intention meets integrity.

  • How can you honor both the living and the dead in your own way?
