Diwatang Makidepat: Bringer of Harmony and Blessings in Our Homes

In Tagalog cosmology, Diwatang Makidepat is the spirit of peace and balance, often invoked to resolve conflicts and restore harmony. Today, we can honor Makidepat not only in community life but also in our homes—where harmony begins.

Imagine a household blessed with loyal dogs, graceful chickens, and a watchful cat. These animals are more than companions; they are living symbols of peace and abundance. When we care for them, we participate in the sacred cycle of harmony that Makidepat represents.

Recently, I experienced this blessing firsthand. Amid financial strain, a student enrolled in Hilot training and made a downpayment—enough to buy food for my pets and schedule an eye check-up. This was Makidepat’s grace in action, reminding me that even in hard times, balance and provision are possible.

A Short Story of Makidepat

Long ago, when the first villages were forming, disputes often broke out over land and harvest. The people prayed to the heavens for peace. From the clouds descended Makidepat, clothed in red and black, carrying a staff of bamboo. He spoke gently:
“Harmony is the root of abundance. Where there is peace, the earth will yield.”

Makidepat taught the people to share water, exchange seeds, and honor each other’s homes. To remind them of balance, he blessed their households with animals—dogs for loyalty, chickens for sustenance, and cats for protection against unseen harm. From that day, every home that lived in harmony prospered under his watchful care.

Why Pets Reflect Makidepat’s Harmony

  • Dogs: Loyalty and guardianship, bridging the wild and the domestic.
  • Cats: Intuition and mystery, warding off negativity.
  • Chickens: Renewal and sustenance, tied to cycles of life and abundance.

Together, they form a circle of peace—a household blessed by Makidepat.

We thank you for the blessings that sustain us in these trying times.
For the food that nourishes our beloved companions—dogs, cats, and chickens—

For the means to restore health and vision,
And for the unseen hand that guides us toward balance and abundance.
